The fourth Spaniard to play for the Dragoons, Fernando grew up in a football-obsessed family in Spain, with the sport running deep in his veins.
Fernando’s talent was evident early on, and at the age of 17, he made his professional debut in the Spanish third division in 2014, where he spent one year playing at a high level. However, faced with a tough decision, Fernando chose to leave football to focus on his studies and secure a future beyond the pitch.
After nearly a decade of playing only in friendly matches with friends, fate intervened. Gonçalo Rodrigues, former player and current staff member, spotted Fernando playing with friends and recognized his potential. In 2023, Gonçalo signed him to Stare Podgórze as Fernando worked his way back to full match fitness. Just a year later, Gonçalo returned to the club in a coaching capacity and brought Fernando with him where he has rediscovered the same joy and excitement he felt for football at 17.
Fernando’s favourite position is as a midfielder, but he is equally comfortable playing as a number 10 or as a winger, showcasing his versatility and football intelligence. With his strong technical skills, vision, and work ethic, Fernando has already shown that he has the potential to become a key player in the Dragoons squad, scoring on his debut and creating a goal for Yuri Samyonov in the 3-1 victory over Płomień Jerzmanowice in the 24/25 season.
#FunFact: Football is in Fernando’s blood, as he followed his father’s footsteps to play in the beautiful game. His father came through the youth ranks at a La Liga but unfortunately did not make it pro. He gave Fernando his football boots before he could even walk!
