Recap
Profligacy Costs The Win
Following an excellent point against Trzebol the previous weekend, the Dragoons looked to conquer a Dąbski side going into the game unbeaten since the season restart in March. Meanwhile, the Expats put their own three-game unbeaten run on the line to test their recent momentum.
Kick Off
The Expats started the better of the two sides, and after nine minutes, Forabosco hammered a dangerous ball forward into the final third. Adrian Paliś read the flight of a risky backpass, subsequently nodding the ball past the rushing home goalkeeper. Unfortunately, the ball ran wide, and the striker completely missed the ball with a cutback attempt.
Shortly afterwards, Voženílek won a foul 30 metres from goal following a clumsy tackle by a defender. Forabosco sent the resulting free-kick toward the top corner, but the keeper securely caught it under the bar.
Minutes later, Koki Oe drew another foul closer to the box, but Forabosco’s second effort also saw the home keeper comfortably gather.
Good Chance Passes
As the half progressed, Forabosco rolled back the years by elegantly bypassing two opponents to get into the box. He delivered a low cross to Paliś, who missed a simple tap-in after receiving a nudge. The struggling striker resembled Bambi on ice as he continuously found himself tumbling to the ground.
Nevertheless, the Dragoons kept pressing, and Bilovol tested the keeper with a curling free-kick that forced the keeper into a flying save.
The hosts had not shown much in terms of offence and finally recorded their first effort in the 34th minute. However, a long shot from range dragged miles wide of the target.
Shortly before the whistle, Nkola saw a header easily clutched after a flick-on from the tireless Paliś.
Pass-back?!?!
Just before the interval, drama unfolded when the Dragoons keeper picked up Krzyzanowski’s knockdown inside the penalty box. Consequently, the referee strictly deemed it an illegal pass-back and awarded the hosts an indirect free-kick. Dąbski drilled a low shot underneath the wall, but the Dragoons stopper reacted well to save the ball.
Ultimately, the teams entered the break level after a goalless but highly intense opening 45 minutes of football. Although the Dragoons completely dominated the ball, they simply failed to create enough clear-cut chances from open play. On the other hand, the toothless hosts had offered virtually nothing from an attacking perspective.
Second Half
Hoping to inject creative spark in the final third, Coach Ferreira brought Fernando Gámez on for Bernabé García to begin the second half.
Instantly, Dąbski went on a rare offensive run down the left flank to challenge the Expats’ defence. An attacker incredibly air-kicked the ball, but the hosts retained possession. The unfortunate forward had a second chance moments later, but sent a mishit shot straight at a grateful keeper.
Dąbski Goal Ruled Out
Moments later, the hosts actually put the ball into the net following a free-kick that created chaos in the Dragoons’ box. An opponent controversially kicked the ball out of keepers hands, but the linesman luckily came to the rescue. The assistant referee disallowed the goal for offside, with the referee missing two fouls in the build up. It did not look offside, but a lucky omen maybe?
Ferreira swiftly substituted Paliś for Barry Chowaniec, who made an immediate impact with some sharp, intuitive passing. Urzędowski and Nkola combined with Chowaniec passing into the overlapping Koki Oe. The Japanese wing-back poked a shot past the keeper, but a retreating defender cleared it off the line. The Dragoons kept turning the screw, but could not find the net.
Dragoons Up the Ante
On the hour mark, Fernando Gámez burst forward from deep and combined nicely with Nkola. The Canarian King found space to shot from the edge of the box, but could only send his effort wide.
A great chance fell to Koki Oe after some excellent build up play involving Nkola and substitute Giordano Zambon. The Angolan sent a dinked ball across goal with a header reaching the Japanese defender inside the box. Koki fired a fierce, promising effort at goal, but just missed the target by the narrowest of margins.
Soon after, Zambon was again involved after linking with Nkola. On this occasion the Italian managed a shot under pressure, but his attempt went straight at the keeper.
Chances Missed!
The Expats continued to squander glorious opportunities, particularly when Nkola nodded a close-range header straight at the keeper from Koki Oe’s cross.
Minutes later, with 20 minutes left, the final ball let the Expats down. Nkola stuck Gámez through, but his pass was not precise enough and a defender come across to deny Chowaniec having a shot on goal from close range.
As the clock ticked into the last ten minutes, Dąbski had their best of the game. A free-kick from deep worked its way into the box and a headed effort had the keeper spring to his left to excellently turn the ball around the post.
A Great Opportunity
With five minutes left, the Dragoons blew an excellent opportunity to win the game. Koki Oe delivered a beautiful through ball to Chowaniec, who rounded the keeper and ran wide inside the box. The attacker pulled the ball back to Gámez for a tap in, but a desperate sliding block deflected a certain goal wide.
In stoppage time, a Dragoons corner visibly struck the outstretched hand of a Dąbski defender inside the box. Shockingly, the referee blew his whistle merely to end the match, leaving the Expats completely devastated…
Despite controlling 71% of possession, the profligate Dragoons somehow missed out on all three points. The team dominated the game but just could not find a way to win the game.

Next Up
The travelling Dragoons must prepare for a tough away fixture against third-placed Skawinka Skawina. The promotion-chasing side recently rescued a dramatic, last-minute draw against second-placed Trzebol despite playing 80 minutes with ten men. Because of Płomień Kostrze’s slip-up at Bieżanowianka, Skawina now sit just two points behind the current league leaders.
Therefore, this upcoming match represents a massive challenge for the Expats. Furthermore, memories of their last encounter will provide plenty of motivation for the squad to achieve redemption. During that previous meeting, Skawina took all three points with a narrow 2-1 victory with all the goals coming in the first half. Vałdzis Fuhaś scored a rebounded effort to draw the Expats level before Skawina added a second just before the break.
