Recap

Tough Day at the Office

The Dragoons suffered a frustrating defeat on the road, bringing their impressive four-game unbeaten run to an abrupt end.

Looking to continue their positive momentum, the Expats started brightly and created several early opportunities. Koki Oe registered the first attempt on target after just two minutes, but the opposing goalkeeper easily caught his long-range effort.

Shortly afterwards, Skawinka threatened with a dangerous pass behind the defence, yet the fierce shot flew wide of Muñoz’s goal. Muñoz then came to the rescue in the eighth minute, expertly holding up a forward to block a dangerous shot on the cutback with his leg.

Trading Blows

Consequently, the match opened up as both sides fought hard to gain total control of the opening stages. The hosts had the better of the first 10 minutes, but the Dragoons held firm and began to build momentum themselves. Roman Bilovol forced a smart save from a back-post header, whilst Kuba Drobny headed off-target from the resulting corner. Immediately after that opportunity, Koki Oe found space out wide via Enrico Forabosco, only to hit his shot into the side netting.

The end-to-end action continued when Skawinka unleashed a fierce drive wide, which Forabosco answered by blasting an effort over the bar. Despite Forabosco picking up a yellow card in the 28th minute, the Expats kept pushing for the opening goal.

Chowaniec tested the keeper from the edge of the box, before the Skawinka custodian bravely punched the ball off Atzori’s head from a corner. The Dragoons had another chance before the break, but the keeper comfortably saved Forabosco’s side-footed volley.

Following the referee’s whistle, the teams went into the break level. The Expats had survived early pressure from the hosts, with neither side not taking chances to go ahead.

Second Half

The Expats started the half well and went close through Giordano Zambon and Koki Oe, but could not find a clinical finish to go ahead.

Despite a bright start to the half, Skawinka struck a devastating blow just five minutes after the restart. The hosts got in down the Dragoons left and put a ball across the the box. Good hold up play, saw Adam Kapusta hit a low shot from the edge of the box, that beat Muñoz to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, this opening goal completely disrupted the Dragoons’ rhythm just as they looked to assert dominance.

The Dragoons looked to hit back, but disaster struck in the 60th minute. Koki Oe’s poor attempted pass went straight to Oskar Pustelnik, who sent a spectacular shot from just inside the Expats’ half that sailed over the stranded Munoz’s head and into the net. This second goal completely knocked the wind out of the Expats’ sails and left them with a mountain to climb. Hoping to change their fortunes, the management introduced Adrian Paliś and Bernabe García for Atzori and Chowaniec.

Fighting Til the Final Whistle

Subsequently, a triple substitution saw Simon Calabrese, Jeremi Wabiński, and Mirko Barile enter the fray to inject fresh energy into the side as they changed formation.

The Dragoons huffed and puffed, yet they simply could not grab the goal to get back into the match. A dangerous corner in the 72nd minute saw Bilovol strike a half-volley, but the ball agonisingly drifted past an unwatchful Barile.

Meanwhile, Corneille Malonga replaced Forabosco in midfield as the visitors threw everything forward in the closing stages. Wabiński sent a glorious through-pass to release Paliś, but the striker leaned back too far and fired his shot over the crossbar.

Koki Oe had the last real chance for the Dragoons, but could only send a late free-kick straight into the keeper’s hands.

Ultimately, the referee blew the final whistle to confirm a disappointing 2-0 defeat for the battling Expats.

After navigating the first 10 minutes well, the Dragoons had played well in the first half, but failed to have the killer instinct too often in the final third. It looked like the the first goal would be an important moment in the game and although the Dragoons started the second half well, Skawinka managed to grab the vital opener and the Expats did not recover.

A change of shape and fresh legs did not have the desired impact and despite pushing forward, the Expats failed to seriously test the home keeper and ultimately fell to defeat.

The result saw Skawinka briefly hold the top spot, but with victories for both Płomień Kostrze and Trzebol saw them fall back to third. Meanwhile, the Dragoons disappointingly fell to 6th place following the defeat.

Looking Ahead to Podgórze

Next up, the Dragoons return home to face Podgórze as they look to bounce back immediately from this setback. Interestingly, the Expats ended a miserable run of form by securing a narrow 1-0 victory the last time these teams met. Flavio Nkola scored the decisive goal on that occasion, providing a blueprint for the squad to follow this week. The boys will certainly need a similar display of grit & quality to remain unbeaten in the last three games and finish as high up the table as possible.
