Recap
A Shambolic Start
The Dragoons suffered a nightmare start to their 2026/27 Klasa A campaign on Sunday. Skawinka Skawina comfortably dismantled a fragile Expats side, securing an emphatic 6-2 victory. Furthermore, this heavy defeat followed a disappointing 2-0 Puchar Polski exit against Płomień Kostrze earlier in the week.
Tactical Pre-Match Headaches
Head coach Gonçalo Ferreira faced severe pre-match selection problems across his squad.
“The Big Yank”, Jake Hedrick, kept his place in goal following his impressive mid-week debut, a performance that earned him the man of the match award. In defence, Kuba Drobny returned to the side to partner Clément de Almeida at centre-back.
Unfortunately, Jan Krzyżanowski an injury suffered last time out and dropped out of the squad. Consequently, Szymon Urzędowski shifted from midfield to left-back, whilst Kamil Kącki started on the right side of defence.
More disruption struck during the pre-match warm-up. Midfielder Omar Atzori aggravated an ankle injury sustained against Płomień. As a result, Oscar Nunes stepped up to partner Mateo Lopez in central midfield. Meanwhile, Mirko Barile came off the wing and pushed forward into an advanced midfield attacking role.
Up front, Flavio Nkola, Barry Chowaniec, and Martin Voženílek all retained their starting positions.

Kick Off
The Expats started the match with positive intent. Within two minutes, the ball fell to Mirko Barile, who sent a high curling shot narrowly wide of the target.
Four minutes later, the Italian midfielder was at the heart of the action again. On this occasion, Barile struck a dipping volley just over the crossbar.
Opening Goal
Despite the promising early signs, Skawinka punished the Dragoons with their very first serious attack in the eighth minute. The hosts launched a simple long ball to the flank behind Kamil Kącki. Skawina’s Oskar Pustelnik showed Kącki a clean pair of heels to get into the box and put the ball on a plate for Eryk Sroka to tap home for 1-0. A really poor goal to concede with the Expats’ defence caught napping.
Skawinka kept pushing forward with relentless momentum as the Dragoons’ heads dipped. Soon after in the 11th minute, an incisive midfield passing move resulted in the hosts allowed to cut through from the wing and an incoming shot went wide of the goal. Moments after, a free header from a corner cleared the Expats’ bar.
Into the 26th minute, another corner caused chaos inside the Dragoons’ box. The visitors struggled to clear the ball away and Jake Hedrick gratefully clutched a weak headed effort just under his own bar.
The Dragoons missed a golden opportunity to level the game in the 32nd minute of the game. Flavio Nkola received the ball in the middle of the pitch and shook off the attention of a defender to run forward. The Angolan picked out a pass to Barry Chowaniec in on goal in the right side of the box.
However, instead of shooting himself, Chowaniec opted to pass back to Nkola, with the pass just behind the attacker, whose eventual shot was blocked. Clément de Almeida rose highest from the resulting corner, but could not direct his header on target.
Skawina Double the Lead
To make matters worse for the Dragoons, suicidal defending gifted Skawinka a second goal just before half-time. The Expats took a free-kick short and Oscar Nunes’ pass to de Almeida sold the Frenchman short. The visitors took possession on the edge of the box and a shot from Kamil Ignyś flew into the top corner past the dive of Hedrick.
As the whistle blew for halftime with the team trailing. Despite a positive five minutes, the Dragoons had struggled for most of the half with the second goal being a real killer blow.
Second Half
Into the second half, the Dragoons started with renewed purpose. Like in the first half, Barile tested the host goalkeeper early, but the keeper saved his low effort easily.
Shambolic Defending
Instead of a comeback, complete disaster struck for the Expats in the 50th minute. Absolutely dreadful defending from a throw-in allowed Skawinka the freedom inside the penalty area. A visiting attacker shrugged off Nunes, skipped past Drobny and a pull-back found Kamil Ignyś to tap home his second goal of the afternoon. It was far too easy for the hosts, with the Dragoons defence opened up far too easily.
A Fourth Goal
Three minutes later, Szymon Urzędowski laid hands on an opponent inside the box, who through himself to the floor. The referee immediately pointed to the spot and Michał Kozik stepped up, coolly sending Hedrick the wrong way to make it 4-0.
In the 58th minute, a rare foray forward saw Kamil Kącki release Barry Chowaniec. The forward tried to pick out Flavio Nkola, but his pass just evaded the Angolan. Nothing seemed to be coming off for the Expats during a frustrating spell. Ferreira immediately sent on Rob Smits to replace Oscar Nunes.
Skawina Make it Five
Nkola’s free-kick into the Skawina box was cleared. Kącki flew himself into a tackle, leaving Urzędowski stranded in a four-on-one counter-attack. The hosts worked the ball to the right, where Kozik finished past the helpless Hedrick. Woeful defending once again left the Expats looking second best all over the park.
Following the goal, Skawina almost gifted the visitors a goal back. Chowaniec raced onto a poor back-pass and worked a low shot that forced the keeper into a save.
Dragoons Consolation
The Dragoons finally got a consolation goal through Mateo Lopez’s first strike for the club. Substitute Robin da Silva showed neat footwork to feed Smits. A defender cut out the Dutchmeester’s initial pass, but Lopez reclaimed possession. The Colombian played a neat one-two with Smits before crashing an effort into the net off the bar.
Ferreira then made a triple substitution. Enrico Forabosco, Adrian Paliś, and Geordie Zambon replaced goal scorer Lopez, Chowaniec, and Voženílek.

Six for Skawina
The Expats’ bright spell ended as Skawinka restored their five-goal cushion in the 71st minute. A pass behind Kącki sparked a footrace between an attacker and the outrushing Hedrick. The Dragoons keeper slid in and took the ball, but he took the player too. The referee immediately pointed to the spot for a second time. Kozik stepped up and went high to complete his hat-trick.
Despite the scoreline, the Dragoons substitutes injected late energy. Zambon rattled the post from a corner with a header, whilst Paliś dragged an effort wide.
The Expats finally put together good attacking moves. Forabosco found Zambon inside the box, and the Italian forced a fine save from the keeper with a stinging effort.
Dragoons Grab a Late Second
From the resulting corner, the Expats grabbed a second goal in the 85th minute. Forabosco’s delivery evaded Zambon’s jump, but Adrian Paliś showed excellent alertness. He got ahead of his marker to nod the ball into an empty net. It marked a 64th goal for the Expats’ marksman, providing a rare bright point in the game.
The goal invigorated the Expats as both Paliś and Zambon forced saves before Nkola blasted over the crossbar. However, it proved too little, too late as the final whistle condemned the Expats to an opening-day defeat.

Post-Match Verdict
This disastrous performance exposed serious flaws in the Dragoons squad. The team completely lacked cohesion, shape, and pitch communication. Furthermore, heads dropped far too early once adversity hit.
While the coaching staff must share some responsibility, the players must take personal accountability for their performances. Tactical positioning on and off the ball was severely flawed, leaving critical areas to fix in training. Defensively, the Expats were exposed far too often, failing to move as a cohesive unit. Although the backline won initial aerial duels, poor midfield positioning meant Skawinka repeatedly pounced on second balls. The midfield left the defence horribly exposed and failed to make any tangible passes to start attacks.
True on pitch leadership was practically invisible until late in the match. Rob Smits stood out after his introduction as the only player communicating positively, looking to get on the ball and use it wisely. Enrico Forabosco also showed his class in brief glimpses, whilst Adrian Paliś displayed key pressing and fight. However, this late surge came against a tiring, comfortable defence.
Moving forward, the players must be fitter, stronger, and far braver in physical duels. Strong words are needed before next weekend. The squad must take responsibility, show more fight for the shirt, and quickly instil a true winning mentality.

Next Up
The Expats return home next weekend to welcome former landlords Nadwiślan Kraków.
Nadwiślan were recently relegated to Klasa A and will be aiming for an immediate return to District League football. Furthermore, the visitors kicked off their campaign in style, coming from behind to secure a 3-1 opening-day victory over Iskra Krzęcin.
Whilst it is still early in the season, the Dragoons must quickly find form if they hope to claim all three points.
