Recap

History Makers

The Dragoons booked their place in the fourth round of the Puchar Polski for the first time in the club’s history with a confident 4–0 victory over Okręgowa side Kolejarz-Prokocim.

Head Coach Gonçalo Ferreira took charge of his first official match, making several enforced changes from the 5–1 win in the previous round.

In goal, Gabi Muñoz kept his place for a third consecutive game. Roman Bilovol and Szymon Urzędowski continued at right and left back, while Brian Lemmen stepped in for Simon Calabrese to partner Kuba Drobny in central defence, a bold move from the Dutchman with his second child due any day!

In midfield, Enrico Forabosco pushed up into a higher position than where he has been utilised in more recent times. Omar Atzori returned after a long injury lay-off, with Alonso Villa García making his first start. Corneille Malonga was set to start, but a navigational error locating the stadium saw him on the bench instead. Fernando Gámez missed out entirely, alongside the injured Rob Smits.

Up front, Adrian Paliś led the line in place of the unavailable Vałdzis Fuhaš for his landmark 50th appearance. Meanwhile, Serhii Yelysieiev kept his place on the left, while Martin Voženílek started on the right.

Kick-Off

The game began cautiously as both sides looked to get a feel for the ball. Prokocim had the first sight of goal in the 5th minute, a rasping free-kick from the corner of the box flashing narrowly wide of Muñoz’s upright.

Three minutes later, nervous defending from the visitors gifted Paliś a chance, but his firm strike was straight at the goalkeeper.

Breakthrough!

The deadlock was broken in the 19th minute. Neither side had created much, but the Dragoons’ pressing forced a mistake in the Prokocim back line. A misplaced pass was recovered high up the pitch, and Forabosco’s perfectly weighted through-ball sent Yelysieiev in at a tight angle. The Ukrainian winger skipped past a desperate sliding challenge and calmly slotted low past the keeper to open the scoring. He took a knock in the process but was able to return after treatment.

Lead Doubled

The Expats stayed organised, keeping their shape, soaking up pressure well and looking to counter at speed.

Ten minutes later, the lead was extended with a touch of good fortune, literally! Bilovol launched a long pass towards Paliś, whose first-touch inadvertently rolled into the path of Voženílek. The Czech burst into space into the box and squared across goal for Paliś, who tapped in from close range. Poor defending from higher-division opponents but the Dragoons weren’t complaining as they lead 2-0. a 61st goal on his 50th appearance for the Dragoons all-time leading scorer!

Prokocim pushed forward in response, but a mix of good pressing, positioning and defending kept the visitors at bay. However, Muñoz had to remain sharp, punching away a vicious effort in the 41st minute.

Right on half-time, a rare lapse in concentration by the Expats gifted the visitors a golden chance. With the Dragoons gifting away possession, Prokocim looked to take advantage and forced Muñoz into a low save. However, the rebound fell to the edge of the box for another strike at goal for the visitors. This time, the Chilean stopper produced sharp reflexes to produce a fine fingertip stop to preserve the two-goal cushion.

Second Half

Malonga replaced Atzori at the break. A good 45 minutes in the legs for the Italian has he looks to work his way back to full fitness after a leg break last year.

The second half started in a similar vein to the first, the Dragoons continued to frustrate their opponents while looking dangerous on the break.

Blistering Counter!

With ten minutes of the half played, a devastating counter led to the Dragoons adding a third goal. Szymon Urzędowski looked up and sent a raking pass down the wing. Paliś just kept it in with a deft touch before finding the clever run of Yelysieiev on the overlap. The Ukrainian galloped into the box, drawing the goalkeeper out of position, and unselfishly squared to Voženílek to tap into an unguarded net.

Three substitutions followed in the 65th minute: Obed Sánchez replaced Lemmen to make his debut, while Jan Kołodziejski and Yuri Samyonov came on for Yelysieiev and Voženílek.

Moments after the change, Malonga broke up an attack and surged forward, running onto a slick back-heel by Samyonov. The Congolese heel-snapper put in a fine long pass into Kołodziejski’s path on the corner of the box, but the Pole’s curling effort drifted wide of the upright.

Debut Delight!

Just two minutes later, the Dragoons struck again as they hit a fourth goal to kill off Prokocim’s chances of getting back into the tie. Forabosco’s corner found Sánchez, who had escaped his marker to power a header into the corner for a debut goal.

The Expats could have added a fifth in the 77th minute when Paliś sent Samyonov through one-on-one. The Israeli had time to pick his spot but fired straight at the keeper.

In the 87th minute, Bilovol’s lofted ball released Paliś down the wing. He muscled past the bewildered full-back and crossed for Samyonov, whose volley found only the side-netting from a tight angle.

When the final whistle blew, the Dragoons had secured their clean sheet, historically booked their fourth-round place, and delivered a disciplined, measured performance. Without the creativity of Gámez or the relentless running of Smits, they stayed calm keeping their shape well, pressed intelligently, and got the small details right to take Prokocim apart and leave Coach Ferreira with plenty to be pleased about.
