About Alex

Where to start with Alex Băcica?

Growing up in Romania, Alex played football casually with friends in his village, though limited transport made regular matches difficult. In September 2015, a kickabout on a sports field in Krakow introduced him to a new circle of friends. Football became a way to break barriers, and Alex began organising weekly games, forging strong friendships and building a core group who shared his love of the beautiful game.

The transition from casual kickabouts to Sunday League came naturally. Together with his friends, Alex created the club that would become the Dragoons, named in homage to Krakow’s dragon, “Smok.” Early matches were filmed and shared on YouTube, but Alex’s ambition was greater!  He wanted to create a legitimate club for Expats in Krakow, giving them a chance to play official football.

Balancing a professional career, Alex invested heavily in the Dragoons’ growth. He completed two coaching courses, became an IPSO-certified scout, and earned a Master’s in Sports Management, all while building a network of football teams willing to visit Krakow to play the club.

A milestone moment came on 28th July 2019, when the Dragoons were accepted into the 8th tier of Polish football and played their first competitive match in the Puchar Polski. With victory secured and ten minutes to go, Alex stepped onto the pitch to make his first official appearance, a dream realized in front of 100 fans.

In 2023, Alex decided to step away from the day-to-day running of the Dragoons. Yet he remains at heart, always ready to give advice and discuss club matters. Today, he is the club’s number one fan, often watching matches on YouTube and supporting the team from afar.
