The four nominees for November’s Player of the Month: Martin Voženílek, Brian Lemmen, Enrico Forabosco and Vałdzis Fuhaš

With the winter break now upon the Dragoons, it is now time to vote for the Player of the Month. Your four nominees for November are Martin Voženílek, Brian Lemmen, Enrico Forabosco and Vałdzis Fuhaš.

Breaking the Duck

The Dragoons went into November on the back of 3 straight losses. A win against Płomień Kościelec put an end to the losing streak however! After an excellent 10 minutes, with chance after chance, the Expats conceded. Kuba Drobny levelled the score with a neat volley, but the Dragoons soon went back behind against the run of play. A defensive mixup in the visitors ranks saw Martin Voženílek notch an equaliser going into the break.

Into the second half, an early red card to Drobny saw the Expats down to ten men. Despite their numerical disadvantage the Dragoons seemed to play better and scored a late goal through Alessio Sassini. Voženílek turned creator minutes later allowing Salah Missi to grab his first goal for the club. A late strike from range by the visitors brought the score to 4-3 as the Expats clinged on to win.

Fenix Trophy!

FC United of Manchester travelled to Krakow for the Expats second fixture in the Fenix Trophy. An early goal for the visitors put them into the lead before the lights went out! With the pitch in darkness, the teams agreed to restart the game the following day. The Dragoons held the might of United off and went into the break a goal behind.

Into the second half, a clever set-piece saw Brian Lemmen get onto Voženílek’s flick-on to score an equaliser! The Dragoons defended stoutly but a penalty saw the resistance broken and FCUM went into the lead once again. 2 more goals came before the final whistle as a brave performance by the Expats ended 4-1 to the visitors.

Controversy!

A long journey followed for the Dragoons as they travelled to Szreniawa Koszyce. The game would end in defeat for the team in a game marred by controversial decisions by the officials. Szreniawa went into the lead early on as Marcin Obyrtacz allowed a shot to creep through his legs. The keeper appeared to recover the ball from off the line however, a flag from the linesman saw the goal given. The Dragoons came back into the game and goals from Vałdzis Fuhaš and Sassini put them into the lead. A late collapse saw the hosts score twice more to go into the break 3-2 ahead.

Martin Voženílek nodded the team level immediately after the break from an Enrico Forabosco corner. The Dragoons went close to re-taking the lead, but fell behind after being caught out by a counter-attack. Alessio Sassini thought he’d given his side a late equaliser after a collision between the keeper and a defender gave the attacker a tap in. Unfortunately, the officials colluded to rule the goal out owing to an alleged foul by the Italian. Both Sassini and Head Coach Hugo Cruz saw red in the ensuing chaos as the Expats went down 4-3.

A Win to Close

The final game before the winter break saw Czarni 03 Grzegorzowice host the Dragoons despite it being a home fixture for the Expats. The Dragoons saw the better of the ball but a missed penalty saw the game level at half time.

A red card to Salah Missi saw the Dragoons down to 10 men, however, hard work and 2 well worked goals from Vałdzis Fuhaš secured a 2-0 victory.
